Utah Gamma Chapter

Our chapter, together with Utah Alpha and Utah Beta, did a great job presenting and winning the joint bid to host the 2005 Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah at the 2003 Convention in Detroit.  Plans began in the summer of 2005 to participate in the "model initiation" at the conclusion of the conference.  During the convention, several chapter members graciously volunteered time and effort keeping things running.  Thanks are in order for all who participated in making the convention such a big success!

As the representative of one of the hosting chapters, our president gave a welcoming speech at the opening banquet.  He also served as the Vice-chair of the Rituals Committee, which was charged with resolving the issue of remote initiations.  The committee, after heated debate, reccomended to the Executive Council that remote initiations only be approved in extreme cases where initiates would otherwise not be able to be initiated.  The committee also presented before the convention an amendment to the ritual including remote initiation requirements for those chapters receiving approval from the Executive Council.  After some debate the amendment passed with a near-unanimous vote.

Our chapter recieved two awards at the convention, marking the hard work of the past several years.  For the coveted Secretary's Commendation with its associated money award we have Ben, Todd, and last year's council to thank.  UT Gamma was also recognized for co-hosting a successful convention.
